Weng, Zhen Jie: The Story Behind the Slogan “the Plan of the Hundred Years: Education as Base”

The old father in the house said that after a few years, this island will have not many people who will be able to read. When I first heard of it, I couldn’t understand it. After he explained it to me thoroughly, I began to understand it.

With China's economy continues to develop, the gap between urban and rural expansion is also increasingly. Several well-respected old teachers on this island are gradually getting their retirements, yet the teachers of younger generation do not want to come to this remote island. The children in this small island found themselves very difficult to continue their dream of studies, so they leave the island and head for the town, and this becomes the only way out for those children to continue their studies. But this time the presence of China's household registration system, turns children’s dream for studies down just like someone whom would pour cold water onto you. While at the same time in the school, there are groups of teachers who do not work with devotion for students. Because mainland China is divided in accordance with the household registration of the school district, students from different areas aside from the local school wish to attend the local school, schools will ask those students’ parents to hand in the required “sponsorship fees”, which its value is more than ten thousand dollars. Sponsorship for whom? For the school! Now only you can believe it. All of these without doubt mean to shut the thick door in front of those poor children, and interdict the road for the dream for studies of those students. We should be aware of the situation of education located in the coastal areas in this hometown is just the tip of the iceberg, and those remote mountain areas in mainland China can only get worse situations. Let us take the recent Wenchuan earthquake as an example: If it is not because of a serious shortage of funds for education, and that led to poor quality construction of school buildings. If it were not for these causes, how can there be so many innocent young students being buried under the school building debris when the whole school building collapsed?

There are the true meanings behind the slogan: “the plan of hundred years” and the slogan: "nine-year compulsory education". What has the Chinese communist government done in the end? Today, China's foreign exchange reserves are in the world's most, but why do they claim it is so inadequate funding for education this? In the final analysis, it is a crime done by Chinese communist party that the party likes to make some defects, such as: exaggerating their slogans. Some defects are said to be like this, "everything based on education, on compulsory education" In fact, deep down in the communist party, they don’t really invest great importance in education.

The Chinese government's puts empty or insufficient funding in primary but hollower emphasis on education. Not only does it have direct adverse impacts for the future generation of students, such as the fatal impact of Wenchuan. The greater side effect permeates in society is that it creates a culture trend full of lies, and the pernicious influence of all sorts of excuses and fraud。Just imagine, primary and secondary school students have ears to hear the introduction of nine-year compulsory education from the state slogan, but these students have eyes to see their schools to use "sponsor fee" on behalf of their own to supplement themselves for their inadequate funding and the cost of living, cost of workers. After these students witness these kinds of phenomena, how can they be good fellows for their country?
